The Peyote Stitch
With Peyote and Brick stitch the beads are added one at a time and stacked like bricks, as the stitch implies.
These pictures are examples of how it works!
|
Start with a needle on a thread.
Tie a sloppy knot at the end so your beads won’t slide off.
(pic 1) Put 8 bead on the thread. |
 |
(pic 2) Add 1 bead #9.
Go through #7.
Add 1 bead #10 skip #6,
go through #5.
Add 1 bead #11 skip #4,
go through #3.
Add 1 bead #12 skip #2,
go through #1. |
 |
(pic 3) Tie a square knot.
|
 |
(pic 4) Add 1 bead #13.
Go through #12.
Add 1 bead #14, go through #11.
Add 1 bead #15, go through #10.

If you want to make a bag with the peyote stitch,
DO NOT, put the first row on the thread and tie a knot!!
It won’t work! when you add the next row, it will bunch up!
DO THIS INSTEAD!
(pic 5) Add the beads needed for the first row.
Then go back the other way adding the second row as if the bag was flat.
(you need to add the beads for the front and back of the bag. |
 |
(pic 6) Now attach the ends by going through the last 2 bottom beads in the 1st row.
Then go through the 2nd to last bead in the 2nd row. |
 |
(pic 7) Now continue adding beads as in (pic 4).
